Scott Marchant:  Senior Test Manager / Principal Consultant  

Scott has extensive background in the area of software quality, specifically working with automated testing tools. Scott has worked within the test field for the last 15 years, looking at the processes clients use in their testing.

His specialisation in the field of ERP application testing has had Scott consulting at strategic levels and as a technical expert particularly with the implementation of Automated testing tools.

Scott was involved in the introduction of the Mercury Interactive product range in early 1995 into test market. His experience with these tools assists clients to implement automation and to have a clear understanding of the issues that are involved.

Scott has worked in a number of different environments, running test teams, these have included SAP(3.1H-4.6C), PeopleSoft 7&8, BAAN, BPCS, Netscape EMAIL systems, Oracle 11i, Siebel and various CRM, custom developments, internet applications and many other application development environments including during the Year 2000 testing and QA. Working in both Test Management and Project Management roles, he has managed projects to tight timetables with teams varying from 4 to 20 people.

Scott has worked in a variety of business situations. His primary focus being the correct implementation of test processes for clients situations. For 2 years, he was the consulting practice manager for an industry leading test consulting firm, supplying test expertise and consulting to the industry. Through running this division he developed an understanding of business issues, resource, risk, time and financial constraints.

Scott was the Solution Practice Manager (5 years) for the test capability within Hewlett Packard (HP), leading a team of 10 test experts and managing the development of internal HP test practices for local and international use. Scott was involved in the worldwide development of excellence for HP in testing with particular attention to the load and performance areas. He has experience covering many responsibilities including management of test projects, QA and technical expert for specific projects and support and mentoring to people within the test field.

He has extensive experience in liaising with business groups, removing problem bottlenecks for business teams and creating solutions, negotiating and change management skills where a positive outcome is arrived. He has significant background in solutions based around test consulting activities and identification of tasks, resources and milestones for completing projects.

Scott has excellent communication and strong documentation skills from his experience as a test manager having run over 300 load tests for a number of organisations. His background and focus has included:-

  • A specialisation in Software Testing, from test Management to expert level product knowledge.
  • Significant expertise across these fields: Load, Stress, Volume, Performance, Unit, Functional, Systems, User Acceptance Tests, Business Risk testing, Regression testing.
  • Very strong implementation expertise in Automated testing techniques across the main product vendors including:
    • HP (Mercury)
    • Rational
    • Compuware
    • Seque and
    • AutoTester
