#1: PlanTech IBM
PlanTech is one of the
leading providers of integrated
technology solutions for
financial advisors and
distribution networks in
Australia, New Zealand and
South Africa. PlanTech’s
products including ProPlanner,
Risk Researcher, SuperSolver
and 4Cast help financial
advisors keep track of
interactions with their
clients, evaluate and compare
multiple insurance products or
superannuation funds, and plan
for clients’ future needs.
The project brief was for
PlanTech to convert its
flagship client-server
application into a larger
enterprise-level system and
needed to introduce discipline
into its software development
processes.
The solution for PlanTech
used IBM Rational RequisitePro™
as a framework for
documentation and
specifications,
Rational Robot to automate
product testing and ClearQuest™
for its helpdesk
operations.
Because it was PlanTech’s
first project designed for
1,000 or more concurrent users,
TestPro acting as IBM business
partner helped to design and
implement the testing
systems.

#2: Test Management and
Strategy
TestPro provided senior
level support to a complex
international integration
project, presenting an analysis
to the senior management of
problems that were faced by the
testing team and a strategy to
resolve them.
The strategy focussed on
practical measures that
consisted of a revised testing
organisation structure, further
mentoring in testing
disciplines and techniques of
the domain experts who were
assigned to do the testing and
the establishment of a
test-co-ordinator role to
ensure that the testing teams
were working efficiently in
regard to the detailed timing
of immediate pre-requisites and
road blocks in test cycles.
Outcome: the project was
able to proceed to schedule
with confidence.

#3: Performance Test - Major
Financial
Institution
TestPro completed a
performance test using HP
LoadRunner including a complex
registration process for a
major financial institution on
a multi-tier architecture
including both Banking and
Financial Services SOA and
traditional components, that
proved the durability of the
application with loads of up to
1000 concurrent users.
The CIO of the financial
institution afterwards voiced
that the TestPro staff involved
in the project were invaluable
to the success of the rollout
of the new product.

#4: Test Management and
StrategyTest Management - Major
Australian-owned
Bank
TestPro provided Program
Level Test Management over some
40 concurrent projects, and
initiated a number of
improvements that dramatically
speeded up test cycles,
increased the resolution rate
for defects and the efficiency
of the teams.

#5: SOA Testing - Global
Software Manufacturer,
Financial Sector
A TestPro analyst provided
"hands on" assistance to the
testing team, quickly gaining a
solid understanding of the
architecture and complex
business rules and implementing
stronger processes around
formalised recording of tests
and results in a SOA
environment, resulting in the
head of the Australian R&D
team commenting that the
TestPro analyst was worth the
headcount of two other test
analysts.

#6: Performance Investigation -
Federal Government
Agency
A Federal Government Agency
was experiencing performance
problems on the use of a common
application by one of their
remote sites, an internal
preliminary investigation did
not reveal the problem and the
telecommunications carrier
involved also reported that the
pipe to the remotely hosted
application was not
congested.
TestPro used IBM Rational
Tester and TestPro analysis and
expertise to measure the
problem and isolate it to
specific components that were
quickly rectified. The senior
manager impacted was delighted
with the outcome and
recommended that TestPro be
engaged more widely.
